Golden Eagles Overpower Rams, Win in Three

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – University of Charleston men's volleyball overpowered Bluefield College Tuesday evening at the Wehrle Sr. Athletic Arena, defeating the visiting Rams in straight sets 25-16, 25-10, 25-8.

The Golden Eagles rebounded from a three-set loss to McKendree last Friday to take their overall record to 4-3 on the season.  The program's previous best win total for a season is four victories.  Coach Ken Murczek played 16 Golden Eagles in Tuesday's win, which only took roughly one hour to dispatch Bluefield.

After securing the first set 25-16, Charleston got off to a slow start in the second and fell behind to Bluefield early on by a 5-2 score.  UC quickly got back on track to score 23 of the next 28 points, hitting at .438 for the set.  Charleston strong attack continued in the third, closing out the match by keeping Bluefield in single digits and forcing them to hit a -.154 for the set while UC had its best effort in the match, totaling 14 kills on 24 attacks while committing just three errors in the set.

Rajahl Moxey and Bryant Ekstein paced Charleston with nine kills each, while Moxey added five blocks on the evening.  Brandon Greenway led UC in assists with 19.

Charleston hits the road for five straight road matches before returning home on February 14th to host Alderson Broaddus.  Next up for UC is St. Andrews on Friday, a team that they defeated in straight sets earlier in the season.
