How it Happened
Charleston used an efficient attack and a strong serving performance to never allow the Yellow Jackets into the match Tuesday evening. The Golden Eagles hit at .214 for the match with 35 kills compared to State's .000 percentage and 22 kills while committing 22 errors. WVSU didn't have an answer for the Charleston serve game either as the Golden Eagles came up with 10 aces on the night, five of which from sophomore libero Kelsey Matusic.
Junior outside hitter Carly Granger paced the Golden Eagle attack with 12 kills on 31 attempts to hit at .355 for the evening. Seven of Granger's put downs came in the final set to send the Yellow Jackets back to Institute with their first MEC loss.
UC has defeated West Virginia State University six consecutive times dating back to 2014. In those victories the Golden Eagles have not dropped a set to the Yellow Jackets.
