CHARLESTON, WV. – The University of Charleston men's basketball team defeated the Fight Scotts of Ohio Valley on Tuesday night to open the 2017-2018 season in the Wehrle Innovation Center.

How It Happened
-The score remained tight for opening minutes of the game until the the two teams reached the midway point of the half. Charleston led by nine with 12.21 to play.
-Ohio Valley brought the score within three (35-32) with just over five minutes to play in the half, but Charleston pulled away again to head into the break leading the Scotts 50-39.
- Coming out of the break, the Golden Eagles built a 17-point advantage just four minutes into the second half, but Ohio Valley clawed their way back into the game cutting the Golden Eagles lead to 73-69 with just over six minutes remaining.
-With :5 left to play in regulation the Golden Eagles led, by two points, but a pair of free throws by Keir Anderson put the game just out of reach for the Scotts. Charleston picked up their second win of the season ith the 91-87 victory.
Charleston Individual Leaders
-The Golden Eagles were led by Keir Anderson who tallied 23 points, three assists, and one steal in the victory.
-Shaq Speights earned 13 points in the victory while Ke'Andre Gibson and Justin Stanback each had 12 points.
Ohio Valley Individual Leaders
-Aleksandar Djordjevi and Chrisitan Alley each notched 18 points to lead Ohio Valley, while Parker tallied 16 in the loss.
A Deeper Look
-Charleston struggled in the paint on the defesnsive side with Ohio Valley earing 19 second chance points to Charlestons nine.
- The Fight Scotts bench also outscored the Golden Eagles bench 45-20.
- Charleston shot 51 percent from the field and just shy of 70 percent from the free-throw line in the victoy.
