McManus Drains 19 to Lead Golden Eagles Over Blue Knights

CHARLESTON, WV. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles (7-3, 3-2 MEC) defeated the Urbana Blue Knights  (0-8, 0-5 MEC) 78-67 on Wednesday night. 

The Basics

How It Happened
-Charleston came out swinging to take a 15-2 lead with just over 12 minutes to play in the first half, but Urbana clawed their way back for a 30-30 tie with 46 seconds to play. 
-A three-pointer from Roy Hatchet gave Urbana the 33-30 lead going into the half. 
-Urbana led for the first few minutes of the second half, but McManus drove one home to give UC the 41-40 lead with 16:12 to play. Charleston expanded their lead to 15 after a pair of free-throws by Austin Howard with just over five to play in regulation. 
-Malik Young sunk a pair of free-throws with 13 second left to play to send UC into the locker room with the 11 point victory over Urbana. 

Charleston Individual Leaders
-Freshman forward, Lamont McManus went 6-8 from the field, for 19 points and eight rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles. 
-Kier Anderson tallied 17 points, while Ke'Andre Gibson marked a season high with 14 points. 

Urbana Individual Leaders
-Ethan Snapp went 6-13 tallying 16 points for the Blue Knights. Carlas Jackson downed 14 in the loss.
-Nick Detlev tallied 10 points and led the Blue Knights in rebounds with nine. 

A Deeper Look
-The Golden Eagles ate up the offensive boards, outing their opponents 12-3 in second chance buckets.
-Charleston's bench outscored the Blue Knight reserves 20-13, while the Golden Eagles also outscored Urbana 36-20 in the paint. 
-The Golden Eagles shot 90% from the free throw line, their best as a team all season, going 29-32.

-The Golden Eagles will Travel to South Euclid, OH on Saturday to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Falcons at 4:00 p.m.
