Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, W.Va. – University of Charleston opened their 2017 campaign with a doubleheader split with No. 5 Millersville on Friday afternoon in Williamston, N.C.

Game 1
-After a pair of scoreless innings to start the doubleheader, Charleston got on the board first in 3
rd inning when Lee Carneal homered to left to break the 0-0 tie.
-Adam Jafine held Millersville's offense in check, working through a quick three innings and got more help from his offense in the 4
th with a Steven Davis RBI double and an Ethan Hunt sac fly that later scored Davis to take a 3-0 lead.
-The Golden Eagles added another run in the 5
th after a Gianfranco Morello single scored Austin Hathaway from 2
nd who doubled to start the inning.
-Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the 5
th, Millersville cut the lead in half finally getting to Jafine who had worked 4 scoreless innings.
-Charleston extended their advantage to 7-2 in the 6
th highlighted by a Jeff Somuk 2-out double that scored a pair of Golden Eagles. Millersville got one back in the bottom half of the inning on a McCormick HR, but UC still lead 7-3.
-UC added two more in the 7
th to give Jafine the 9-2 leading going to the final three outs for Millersville. Jafine got the first two outs but couldn't finish, enter Brandon Harris who closed out the Marauders and sealed the 9-3 win for Charleston

Game 2
-Charleston again struck first, this time in the opening inning after Carneal scored on an error by the Millersville shortstop to give UC a 1-0 lead after one.
-After a scoreless 2
nd, Millersville came alive in the 3
rd to score 4 runs on UC starter Kaleb Kinder highlighted by McCormick's 2
nd HR of the afternoon, this time a two-run shot to left.
-Millersville added a run in the 5
th and carried a 5-1 lead going into the 7
th before Charleston made things interesting. UC tried to rally with two outs in the final frame when Carneal blasted his 2
nd HR of the day, a two-run poke to right center that cut the deficit to 5-3. That's all UC could muster and split the DH with the Marauders.
CHARLESTON INDIVIDUAL LEADERSÂ
-Adam Jafine went 6 2/3 innings in UC's opening win, giving up 3 runs.
-Lee Carneal went 4-for-7 on the day, including 3 RBI's and 2 HR's.
MILLERSVILLE INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
-Chas McCormick belted 2 HR's for the Marauders
-Jimmy Cain went 3-for-4 in Game 2, driving in 2 RBI's.
-Eli Nabholz worked all 7 seven innings in Millersville 5-3 win
