Box Score 2 HARTSVILLE, SC. – The University of Charleston split its' first day of competition, falling 1-0 to King University (4-7) and topping the Golden Bears of West Virginia Tech (0-5) on the first day of the Coker Tournament.

CHARLESTON VS. KING
- After three innings of scoreless softball, King University scored it's first and only run of the game after Morgan Lowe hit a single to left field sending Candace Maness home.
- Charleston fought through the last three innings, but fell to the Tornadoes 1-0.
CHARLESTON VS. WEST VA. TECH
- Bethany Williams put Charleston on the board first with a homer to left field sending two other runs home to put the Golden Eagles up 3-0.
- No one crossed home plate in the second inning, but West Virginia Tech scored their first run of the game at the top of the first with a double by Skylar Connelly down the left field line to send a runner home. Charleston answered at the bottom of the third with a tripple by Karli Pinkerton followed by a single by Laura Ashlock to send a runner across home plate bringing the score to 4-1 Charleston.
- The fourth inning went scoreless for both teams but a four run inning from West Virginia Tech put the Golden Bears within 1 run behind UC. Connelly sent a three-run homer to right center to put West Virginia State up 8-6 on the Golden Eagles. Charleston went scoreless in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Golden Bears did not score again during their final at bat of the game, but Charleston would score two with a two-run homer by Haleigh Chrisotpher to tie the game up 8-8. The Tech pitcher walked Monica Carter advancing Lauryn Easterling to second. Rachelle Toppings hit a single to right center sending Shelby Ume across home plate for the game winning score.
UP NEXTCHARLESTON INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Haleigh Christopher led the Golden Eagles with 3 RBIs in the win against West Virginina Tech. Rowe was credited with the win (1-0).

- Charleston will next take the field on Saturday to face LMU at 5:00 p.m. and the hosts, Coker College at 7:00 p.m.
