Charleston Downs LMU In Four Sets Friday Night

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston Volleyball (8-10) downs Lincoln Memorial (8-13) in four sets on Friday night.   
 
JUST THE BASICS 
SCORE - University of Charleston 3; Lincoln Memorial 1 
LOCATION - Harrogate, Tenn.  
TEAM RECORDS - Charleston (8-10), LMU (8-13)  
 
GOLDEN EAGLE INDIVIDUAL LEADERS 
-Ryan Santos tallied 16 kills and 3 aces to lead the Golden Eagles. 
-Byron Hurd tabbed 11 digs in the win, while Anthony Rivera had 38 assists. 

LMU INDIVIDUAL LEADERS  
-Joshua Riblett had 15 kills. 
-Pedro Carvalho led with 3 aces and 3 blocks.  
-Ryan Iskandar tallied 32 assists in the loss. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
-Charleston got on the board first with a kill by Donovan Wilmott. Charleston secured their lead after a kill by Anthony Rivera bringing the score to 9-8. The Golden Eagles maintained the lead through the remainder of the first set. After building a seven point lead Charleston closed out the first set with a 25-18 victory.  
-The Golden Eagles jumped out in front in the second set and held on for the 25-18 win.  
-With the 2-0 lead over the Railsplitters, Charleston needed one more victory to close out the match. The Golden Eagles maintained the lead through set number 3 until LMU tied it up at 22 after a service ace by Ryan Iskandar. UC took the lead back with a kill by Eugene Stuart (23-22). LMU tied the score back up and took the lead on the next play. Following a Charleston timeout LMU took the third set after a Charleston attack error.  
-The Golden Eagles went into the fourth set leading 3-1. The score stayed close with neither team leading by more than one score. After a 10-10 tied Charleston gained the lead and took off heading to another 25-18 win. Charleston took match one of a two-match series 3-1.  

UP NEXT 
-Charleston will take the court Saturday at noon to finish the two game series against the Railsplitters.
