HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Charleston men's tennis dropped a 5-4 decision to Belmont Abbey Tuesday afternoon to open the PTR Spring TennisFest with a loss.
UC fell behind after doubles to the Crusaders 2-1, securing their only court at No.1 as Alec Foote and Dominic Centofanti teamed up for a 8-5 win. The Golden Eagles battled back to even the match at 4-4 with singles wins by Foote, Ben Lakeman and Elliot Le Petit to force a decisive match at No. 5 singles. Jamie Gibson split the first two sets with his Crusader opponent to set up a super tiebreaker that determined the match winner. Gibson came up short in the super, losing 10-4 that gave Belmont Abbey the match win.
Charleston gets back on the court tomorrow to play Augustana (S.D.) with first serve set for 6:30 p.m.
