CHARLESTON, W.Va. – University of Charleston got their first win in conference play Monday afternoon at Triana Field, splitting a double header with visiting Fairmont State University.

Game 1
-Fairmont State struck early against Charleston, plating a pair of runs on a Johnny Kesling doubles to scored two off Golden Eagle starter Adam Jafine.
-Charleston struggled at the plate, generating only 4 hits in Game 1 of the doubleheader off Falcon starter Michael Stout. Stout worked all 7 innings in the complete game shutout while striking out 8 Charleston batters.
-Jafine threw all 7 innings for UC, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits, striking out seven Falcon batters in the loss.
-The Falcons added a pair of insurance runs in the 5
th inning with Kesling driving in his 3
rd run of the day on a single to left field that eventually scored another Falcon after a miscue in the field by Charleston.
Game 2
-Fairmont opened the game with a run in the 1
st off Charleston Game 2 starter Austin Henrich, but the freshman settled in to keep the Falcons at bay until the 5
th inning.
-UC gave Henrich the run support he needed scoring 3 runs in each the 2
nd and 3
rd innings to take command of the game 6-1. Jesse Elliott provided the spark in the 2
nd with a 2 RBI single followed by an Ethan Hunt RBI double later in the frame. Will Lucas and Nick Wilson came up with clutch hitting in the third with RBI singles.
-Fairmont cut into UC's lead in the 5
th and 6
th innings, scoring 4 runs to make it a 1-run game and forcing a pitching change as Coach Wright went to Brandon Harris out of the bullpen.
-Harris shut down the Falcon comeback, keeping the visitors off the scoreboard in the 7
th, 8
th, and 9
th innings while a Steven Davis solo HR gave UC the cushion they needed to earn a series split, 7-5.

-The Golden Eagles return to non-conference play tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21 as they play WVU Tech in a single nine inning game at Appalachian Power Park. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
