UC Scores 13 Runs on 17 Hits to Batter Tigers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles scored 13 runs while pounding out 17 hits in Charleston's 13-4 win over Salem International Thursday evening at Appalachian Power Park, their 6th straight victory.

Game 1
-UC fell behind early as the Tigers plated 3 runs in the top half of the 2nd off Charleston starter Austin Henrich who was making his first start of the 2017 season.  The starter settled in after the 2nd, working 6 innings and allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, striking our 3.
-Trailing 4-3 in the 3rd, the Golden Eagles took the lead for good when junior DH Tristan Fields belted a towering 2-run HR over the left field wall that put UC 5-4 entering the 4th.
-UC outscored the Tigers 11-3 over the final 6 innings while getting strong relief work from Levi Nash and Harrison Bell who combined to throw 3 scoreless innings, striking out 2 batters each.
 

CHARLESTON INDIVIDUAL LEADERS 
-Freshman first baseman Nick Wilson had a perfect night at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, scoring 2 runs and driving in a run.
-Junior catcher Steven Davis had 3 hits on the evening, scored 2 runs, knocked in a run and stole 3 bases.
-Tristan Fields hit his 2nd HR of the season in his 2-hit performance, scoring 2 runs and driving in a pair of runs.
-Sophomore centerfielder Austin Hathaway led the team in RBI's with 3 while going 2-for-3 from the plate.
-Freshman starter Austin Henrich picked up his 2nd victory of the season, 1st as a starter after tossing 6 innings and allowing 4 earned runs.

SALEM INTERNATIONAL INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
-Catcher Sean Deviney drove in a pair of runs for the Tigers in the loss.
-DH Jimmy Cramer went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, reaching base 3 out of 4 times he stepped in the box.

UP NEXT
-The Golden Eagles resume the 3-game series with Salem International tomorrow at Appalachian Power Park, starting the scheduled double header at 3:00 p.m.
