THE GAME
Charleston could only come up with three hits in nine innings off the Alderson Broaddus pitching staff, failing to make in-game adjustments on Battler starter J.J. Espy in his first career start. UC got a win worthy performance from Andy Hoyer and Kaleb Kinder, but didn't get the run support needed to earn their 23
rd win of the season. The Battlers got to Hoyer early with three of their six runs coming on a single swing from Cody Cowart in the opening frame and took a 4-0 lead after one inning.
Charleston threatened multiple times, loading the bases on a couple occasions to only come away with a single run. UC drew six walks and reached base four other times after being struck by a pitch, only to not capitalize and strand 11 runners over the nine innings. Kinder was sensational in relief, keeping the Battlers at bay by allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five in his four innings of work.
