BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – University of Charleston men's tennis narrowly dropped a 5-4 match to the Atlantic Region's fourth ranked team, West Virginia Wesleyan College, Saturday to close out their MEC regular season.
It marks the third time this season that UC has been on the wrong end of a 5-4 match, losing earlier in the year to Fairmont State and Belmont Abbey.
Charleston held a 2-1 lead going into singles play, winning at both No. 1 and 2 doubles to give themselves a slight advantage with six singles courts to be played. UC's top of the lineup did their job as Alec Foote grinded out a three-set win at No. 1 and Ben Lakeman cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2. However, the Bobcats rallied to take all four matches at No. 3 through No. 6 singles in straight sets to defend their home court, winning 5-4.
