CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston defeated the Hilltoppers from West Liberty on Friday night, after fighting hard to outlast WLU, winning 3-1.

How It Happened
The first set of play was a close one between the Golden Eagles and the Hilltoppers, as the two teams battled against one another to gain the edge. Charleston led for the majority of the set, but could not hold on, falling 26-24, putting West Liberty up 1-0 heading into the second set.
The second set of the day was driven by the Golden Eagles, as they overtook West Liberty 25-19, evening out the game at one set each. UC led the set with 18 kills, compared to WLU's 10. The Golden Eagles ended the set with a pair of kills from Tori Clark, and a Hilltopper attack error.
Heading into the third set, the match was even between the visiting Hilltoppers and the Golden Eagles, but Charleston fought through with more energy than the other side to gain the set. UC's Janeese VerVelde had six kills in the third set, helping to lead the Golden Eagles to a 25-17 third set victory, putting them up 2-1 against WLU.
The fourth and final set of play was all UC from the beginning, as Charleston led from the start. The Golden Eagles didn't let up, beating the Hilltoppers 25-29, and winning the match 3-1.
