Golden Eagles Snag First MEC Victory Over Cavaliers

CHARLESTON W.Va.- The Golden Eagles defeated the Cavaliers of UVA Wise behind strong efforts from Devon Robinson and Adam Traore. Robinson had a career high 16 rebounds and Traore had a season high 20 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saturday's basketball double-header finished with the Golden Eagles battling against the Cavaliers in a heated MEC battle. The first half was a back and forth boxing match with no team gaining a sure advantage. The half showcased eight lead changes by each team with each team only gaining a three-point advantage at most. The Golden Eagles only led by one point at halftime. Devon Robinson got off to a hot start at the beginning the first half but cooled down toward the end. He ended the half with 11 points followed by Adam Traore who added nine. As a team the Golden Eagles shot 41 percent from the floor.
 
The second half was like the first, each team fighting for every opportunity to take the lead. The Golden Eagles pulled ahead by 10 toward the end of the game. The Golden Eagles were able to get good help off the bench with bench players providing 21 total points. UC dominated wise on the offensive end shooting a solid 43 percent from the field. Wise was able to stay in the game with their good long-range shooting; they went 13-for-29 from beyond the arc in the game. However, UC was able to pull away at the end of the game after a plethora of points coming from free throws.

- Devon Robinson led the game in points with 24 and rebounds with 16
- Adam Traore had 20 points
