THE GAMES
GAME 1
UC gave senior starter Adam Jafine a pair of runs in the first inning to allow the right hander to work six and two-thirds innings and carry a 3-2 lead late in the game. The Cardinals made things interesting in the seventh, loading the bases with 2 outs when Coach Andrew Wright made the move to his bullpen inserting Hunter Townsend to close down the SVSU threat. Cardinal first baseman Quincy Jones stepped in the box looking to steal a victory from Charleston and seemed to have done so, ripping a line drive to the right center gap.
Right fielder Brice Arrington got a great jump on the liner to make a diving grab deep in the gap to preserve the UC 3-2 victory and give Jafine his much deserved first win of the season. Townsend earned his first save in his one-third inning pitched, but got the out Charleston needed to take the opener of Saturday's doubleheader. Ryan Hunt went 2-for-3 from the plate with a double while Colton Bauer and Arrington added a RBI apiece.
GAME 2
Saginaw Valley got to Charleston left handed senior starter Kaleb Kinder early in Saturday's series finale, scoring six runs in the second to take a commanding 6-1 lead over the Golden Eagles. The Cardinals added a pair of runs in the third to make it 8-1 before Charleston started to scratch their way back into the game. UC scored a single run in each of the third and fourth innings then added a pair of runs on RBI singles from Steven Davis and Bauer in the fifth to make it 8-5 going to the sixth.
It would be the closest UC would get as Saginaw Valley handed the ball to Brian Feinauer to shut down the Golden Eagles over the last couple innings, eventually closing out the series with a 10-5 road victory in the nightcap. Davis finished the game going 2-for-4 with two RBI's while the UC bullpen allowed just two earned runs over five and two-thirds innings highlighted by Levi Nash's two innings of scoreless, no-hit work.
