THE GAMES
GAME 1
Charleston scored five unearned runs in the first innings and never looked back in a 12-9 victory over Urbana University to start the MEC schedule. All five of UC's runs came with two outs highlighted by a Ryan Hunt single up the middle that plated a pair of Golden Eagles. Junior Brandon Harris made the most of his second start of the season after being pulled in from the bullpen, tossing four and two-thirds innings in his second win of the season.
Urbana did narrow the Charleston lead to 7-5 in the fifth inning only to see Nick Wilson extend the UC lead to 10-5 after belting a three-run homerun over the left field fence. UC was able to hold on 12-9 after a late scare from the Blue Knights. Wilson finished the game going 2-for-4 with four RBI's while Ryan Hunt was perfect at the plate going 2-for-2 with two RBI's and scored a pair of runs.
GAME 2
In his first start as a Golden Eagle, sophomore left hander Robert Fultineer didn't disappoint coach Andrew Wright. The crafty lefty threw five innings, allowing just one run while striking out three Blue Knight batters to pick up his first win of the 2018 season. The Golden Eagles scored the game's first 10 runs, four of which were in the first two innings where Charleston wasn't credited with a hit rather taking advantage of walks and miscue in the field by Urbana.
Urbana did make things interesting the seventh, rallying for five runs before Daniel Quiroz grounded into a bases loaded force play to end the game, 11-6 in favor of the Golden Eagles.
