HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Charleston's men's tennis team has improved to 5-3 on the season after winning the first match of their PTR Spring TennisFest Tournament in Hilton Head, S.C. 8-1 against Quincy University.
The Golden Eagles opened up its Spring Break play with an 8-1 over Quincy out of Illinois. Charleston jumped to a quick and comfortable lead with a sweep of doubles only dropping a total of 7 games in all three matches. UC clinched the match in under an hour following doubles, as Ben Lakeman and Alek Gracin both dominated their opponents putting Charleston on top 5-0. Joao Tayar finished next with a 6-3, 6-0 win at 2nd Singles. While UC dropped 4th singles, they picked up hard fought wins in third set tie-breakers by number 3 Tom Andrews (2-6, 7-5, 11-9) and number 6 Jason Prince (6-7, 6-3, 10-6). They improve to 5-2 on the season
Charleston will face Lenoir-Rhyne University on Wednesday, March 14, in the third day of their PTR Spring TennisFest Tournament in Hilton Head, S.C.
