CHARLESTON, W.Va. – UC men's tennis suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to the Mercyhurst Lakers in their fourth match of the season with an 8-1 loss at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania.
The Mercyhurst Lakers got out to a 2-1 early lead following doubles. The winning pair for Charleston was No.3 doubles pair Tom Andrews and Rob Berry with a 8-6 victory over the Lakers. Mercyhurst proved to be tough for Charleston in singles, winning all six matches. The Lakers clinched the match with quick wins at the top of the line up in the first three positions. At 4th, 5th, and 6th singles Charleston competed better, but still came up short, falling to Mercyhurst with a final score of 8-1. The loss was the first of the season, giving the Golden Eagles a record of 3-1. They take on Edinboro at 3:30pm on March 3rd.
