THE GAMES
GAME 1
UC got things started early scoring in the first inning for the first time this season when Steven Davis crushed a double to right center to bring in Colby Johnson and take a 1-0 lead after one. The teams traded single runs in the second, but the Mountain Cats plated four runs from the third to the fifth innings to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom half of the fifth.
Just like Saturday, UC stormed back to trim the lead to 5-4 following a Johnson RBI triple to left then scored on a wild pitch. Caleb Lupton closed down the UPJ bats over the final three innings to set up Charleston's come from behind victory. UC added another pair of runs in the sixth behind Ryan Hunt's single through the left side to even the game at 5-5 that set up Austin Hathaway's game winning sacrifice line drive to deep left center to score Brice Arrington.
Lupton earned his first victory as a Golden Eagle in relief, going two and two-innings and striking out three Mountain Cats, allowing just one hit.
GAME 2
Sunday's back half of the midday doubleheader proved to be a pitcher's dual between UC's Adam Jafine and UPJ's Dylan Heid. Jafine had the upper hand, tossing six shutout innings while striking out 10 and allowing only two hits. Heid kept the Mountain Cats close, giving up just two runs and striking out eight Golden Eagles to set up UPJ's late rally. Trailing 2-0 in the seventh and down to their final out, UPJ took advantage of a Golden Eagle error and wild pitch to score the game's final three runs and steal a 3-2 win to conclude the weekend.
