CHARLESTON, W.Va.– The Golden Eagles have advanced to the MEC semi-final, after defeating the Shepherd Rams 5-0 on Friday afternoon.
Alek Gracin and Tom Andrews at No. 2 doubles began the winning day for Charleston as they defeated their opponents 8-0 on the Marshall University courts. No. 1 doubles tandem of Ben Lakeman and Joao Tayar had a closer match, but ultimately pulled out an important win for Charleston with a score of 8-4. At No. 3 doubles, UC's own Jason Prince and Elliot LePetit battled hard to earn an 8-5 win for UC giving Charleston a 3-0 advantage heading into singles. Singles play was kept short and sweet as UC's No. 3 and 4 singles players Tom Andrews and Alek Gracin each defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0 to secure the 5-0 win for the Golden Eagles.
UC will face Fairmont State University on Saturday, April 21 in Huntington, WV at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center at 2:00 PM in the semi-final of the MEC Tournament.
