THE GAMES

GAME 1
Wise opened Sunday's doubleheader with a run in the first inning off Golden Eagle starter Jonathan Carr to take a 1-0 lead but the sophomore left hander settled in after that for the complete-game victory.  He finished allowing just a pair of runs on four Wise hits while striking out four Cavaliers.

Down 1-0, UC evened the game in the third on a Gianfranco Morello single through the left side that brought in Jesse Elliott to make it 1-1.  The game remained knotted at 1-1 until the sixth inning when Charleston's senior catcher Steven Davis broke the tie with a solo homerun to right center field that put the Golden Eagles ahead 2-1.  Later in the inning freshman Hayden Cartt drove in what would be the game winning run as he brought in fellow freshman Colton Bauer from second base on a single to left field.  Wise would plate a run in the seventh but Carr would close out the game with a 3-2 complete game victory, his first win of the 2018 season.

GAME 2
The second game of Sunday's doubleheader belonged to Golden Eagle senior starter, Anthony Zona.  The right hander tossed seven scoreless innings to improve to 3-1 on the season, striking out five Wise batters on the way to the shutout.  The stellar performance brought Zona's ERA down to 2.70 and marks his third straight quality appearance on the rubber for UC.

Six of Charleston nine hits in the 7-0 win were extra-base hits, five doubles and a homerun by Colby Johnson, his third on the weekend to bring his team-leading total to seven on the season.

Three Golden Eagles had a multi-hit game in Sunday's finale, as Johnson and Davis each had a pair while Austin Hathaway was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish.

The four-game sweep of Wise stretches out their MEC South Division lead to three games over WVSU and Concord with eight conference games left on the schedule, facing the Jackets and Mountain Lions in four-game series' over the next two weekends.
