INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Golden Eagle's men's tennis team earned the No. 6 seed in the Atlantic Region in the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's National Tennis Tournament announced on Tuesday evening.
To begin the tournament, the top two teams from each region will act as hosts. After region play, the winner from each host site will head to Surprise, Arizona to compete in the round of 16, all the way to the finals from May 9-12.
UC earned a bid to the tournament after a 14-8 season, and will advance to the tournament for the sixth time in program history, having had previous NCAA appearances in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. The Golden Eagles will face the No. 3 seed, West Virginia Wesleyan College, in Erie, PA on Monday, April 30
th. The winner of this match will then face No. 2 seeded Mercyhurst University on Tuesday, May 1
st. The winner of Tuesday's match will earn a trip to Surprise, Arizona.
The No. 1 seed Bluefield State will host the other half of the Atlantic Region in Bluefield, W.Va., with No. 4 seed Fairmont State facing No. 5 seed Edinboro on Monday, April 30th. The winner of this match will then face Bluefield State on Tuesday, May 1
st, and will play for a trip to Surprise, Arizona.
Head coach Matt Santen is in his 12
th season at the University of Charleston and has led the Golden Eagles to all six of their NCAA appearances.
