Golden Eagles Go 1-1 with Pioneers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, WV – The University of Charleston Softball team split their Friday MEC matchup with the Glenville State Pioneers. The Golden Eagles fell in game one 2-7 followed by a 6-0 shutout in game two.

How it Happened 
GAME 1: 
The Pioneers got the ball rolling in the first inning scoring a run on a single by Ally Brown. The Golden Eagles answered and then took the lead in the bottom of the first with singled by Haleigh Christopher and Rachel Rucsh to bring home a pair of runs. The Golden Eagles would only bring home runners in the bottom of the first. 

In the top of the second a single to left field by Catie Pelfrey sent two runs home giving the Pioneers the 2-3 lead.  Two additional runs in the sixth put the Golden Eagles in a 3-run hole going into the seventh inning. A single by Tori Ward brought in two runs in the top of the seventh to bring the score to 7-2. The Golden Eagles were unable to get any more offense going in the bottom of the seventh. Glenville State went on to take game one. 

GAME 2: 
The Golden Eagles put the bats to work in game two starting with a triple by Karli Pinkerton in the bottom of the third inning that sent Ansley Warner home. Batting second, Kendall Marshall sent a single to center field bringing home Pinkerton to make the score 2-0. Haleigh Christopher put the ball up the middle to send Marshall home for the Golden Eagles third score of the game. 

Rachel Rush sent another run home in the bottom of the third after reaching second on an error by the centerfielder giving UC the four-run advantage. In the bottom of the fourth Karli Pinkerton nabbed her second RBI of the game sending Siarra Harrington home with a single to center field. 

Alex Thomas struck a double to bring Walkosz home to give the Golden Eagles the 6-0 victory. 

Noteables
-The 6-0 victory went down as the Golden Eagles sixth shutout of the season and Carlee Lucas' third shutout in her career as a Golden Eagle.
-Karli Pinkerton tabbed her 20th career multi-hit game as well as the ninth multi-hit game for freshman second baseman, Kendal Marshall. 
-Freshman right fielder Alex Thomas picked of her first career double during her last at bat of game two.

The Golden Eagles will host the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
