UC Plays Penn State to Tight Three-Set Match

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston played Penn State to a tight three-set match Friday evening in the Wehrle Athletic Arena but came up on the short end of each set to fall to the Nittany Lions for the second time this season.

TEAM RECORDS
Charleston (13-9, 3-8 EIVA)
Penn State (13-9, 8-3 EIVA)

How it Happened
Charleston battled the Nittany Lions in a tough three-set match, playing its best volleyball against the two-time national champion since joining the EIVA two seasons ago.  Each set was tied in the late stages before Penn State's experience and rich history shined through to edge past the Golden Eagles, but Charleston is getting closer to these big DI programs.

Charleston never trailed by more than four points on the evening, as the scrappy Golden Eagles kept creating chances to keep the match tight, despite being out-hit .316-.157 for the match.  Ultimately it came down to Penn State's tough defense, as the visitors came up with 44 digs on UC attack attempts to spoil Charleston's upset bit.
