CHARLESTON, W.Va.– Charleston's men's tennis team has improved to 10-5 on the season after defeating the West Liberty Hilltoppers on Saturday evening, 8-1 in Charleston.
The Golden Eagles had a successful day on the courts at West Liberty, defeating their opponents in all but one match on the day. Doubles went well for UC, as No. 1 doubles duo Ben Lakeman and Joao Tayar cruised to an 8-2 victory, and No. 2 tandem of Alek Gracin and Jason Prince followed suit winning 8-4. No. 3 doubles was UC's only loss of the day, as they fell 8-4.
In singles play the UC took total control of the courts, winning all six of their matches to lead to an 8-1 victory. No. 1 spot Ben Lakeman controlled his match, winning 6-2, 6-3, while Joao Tayar defeated his opponent at the No.2 singles spot 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Singles play continued in favor of the Golden Eagles as Tom Andrews at No. 3, Alek Gracin at No. 4, Jason Prince at No.5, and Elliot Lepetit at No. 6, all defeated their Hilltopper opponents to win the day 8-1.
The Golden Eagles head to Bluefield, Va. on Monday, April 9
th to face Bluefield College at 1:00 PM.
