Box Score BECKLEY, W.Va. -- Charleston's Jonathan Carr picked a good day to have his best outing of the 2018 season, tossing six innings without allowing an earned run in UC's MEC Tournament day two victory, 6-2, over West Liberty University at Linda K. Epling Stadium.

THE GAME
Hunter Townsend worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the ninth to secure a 6-2 win for Charleston in Friday night's game against West Liberty. He forced a fly out to right and collected back-to-back strikeouts to secure the Golden Eagles' spot in Saturday's winner's bracket semifinal game.Â

Charleston struck first in the contest after Ryan Hunt scored on a pass ball in the bottom of the first. Colton Bauer hit an RBI single in the second and Hayden Cartt knocked in a run in the third to leave West Liberty trailing 3-0.Â

The Hilltoppers got on the board in the top of the sixth after Justice Jackson scored on an error. The Golden Eagles responded in their half of the frame, scoring three runs on two hits and two West Liberty errors. Ethan Estes hit a homerun to left in the seventh for West Liberty to make the score 6-2.Â

In the ninth, Nolan Marcus hit a single to start the frame. With one out, Vincent Haddox laced a single through the right side and Estes walked to load the bases . Townsend struck out the final two batters of the frame to secure the win for Charleston.

Haddox and Jackson each had two hits for West Liberty in the loss. Parker Dyson threw 5.1 innings in the contest, allowing six runs (five earned) on 11 hits. Tyler Blomquist entered the game in-relief and threw 2.2 innings.

Jonathan Carr was credited with the win on the mound for Charleston. He allowed one run (unearned) over the course of six innings while striking out three. Brandon Harris threw two innings in-relief before Townsend came in to earn the save.

Gianfranco Morello became the single-season steals leader in Golden Eagle program history after swiping three bases in the win to take his season total to 32, eclipsing the previous mark of 31 held by Jason Hummer (1998). Steven Davis notched three hits in the win. Hayden Cartt, Brice Arrington, and Colton Bauer each tallied two hits for the Golden Eagles.
