CHARLESTON, W.VA. –The Golden Eagles men's volleyball team had their first home win of the season, as they defeated the visiting Stevenson Mustangs 3-2 (25-20, 17-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-13).

How It Happened
The Golden Eagles started the day off strong, taking the Stevenson Mustangs 25-20 in the first set of play. Charleston remained close to Stevenson until the fourth point, slowly creeping ahead. Charleston continued their momentum, finishing the set with a service ace from sophomore Ian Barker. UC's senior right side hitter Eugene Stuart led the Golen Eagles with four kills, while freshman setter Diego Villafane had 10 assists, while junior Adriel Roberts gave UC four block assists.
Stevenson topped Charleston in the second set, as the Golden Eagles could not keep up with the energy of the Mustangs, falling 17-25. The set started out evenly between the two sides, as UC's Stuart gave Charleston their first kill of the set. Although the score continued to stay close between the Golden Eagles and the visiting Mustangs, UC was unable to sneak past Stevenson, losing the set and tying the match score at 1-1.
The Mustangs continued to keep their tempo up in the third set, gaining a 2-1 edge over the Golden Eagles with a 22-25 win. The set was in Charleston's hands at the beginning of the set, as they led over Stevenson until the 20
thpoint. The two sides went back and forth until the Mustangs were able to snag the extra points to win the set.
The fourth set of play was vital for the Golden Eagles, as they evened out the score at 2-2. Charleston sophomore outside hitter Maarten Bartels gave UC four kills, while redshirt freshman setter Chase Johnson had two blocks and eight assists. Barker finished the set for the Golden Eagles with a kill, winning 25-19.
The final set of play remained close between the Golden Eagles and the Mustangs, as both sides fought to win the set and ultimately match. Charleston's senior outside hitter Byron Hurd brought the Golden Eagles energy, having the last kill of the game and leading UC to a 15-12 set win and a 3-2 win on the day.

th, with the match set for a 7:00 p.m. start.
