How It Happened

The Golden Eagles came out to play on Saturday evening, as they took on the visiting George Mason Patriots. The first set of play was run by the Golden Eagles, as they led over the visitors all the way up until the 21stpoint, where the roles switched. UC, however, didn't stop with their persistence, falling 23-25 in the set. UC's sophomore standout Max Senica led Charleston with 6 kills, while sophomore Maarten gave the Golden Eagles four digs.

Charleston headed in to the second set down by a set, but did not let them keep their momentum down. The Golden Eagles went point for point with the Patriots, until a service ace from Senica gave Charleston a burst of energy, and helping UC go up 20-16 on George Mason. The Golden Eagles continued to work hard, making it tough for the visitors to get a point ahead. Using their intensity to assist redshirt freshman Chase Johnson in a kill to win the set 25-23, tying up the match at 1-1. Charleston's senior captain Brandon Greenway and Senica led the set in points with 10, and Senica, Adriel Roberts, and Chase Johnson each had a block for the Golden Eagles.

Heading into the third set tied, both teams knew the importance of winning the set to get an edge up. The visiting Patriots came out determined, forcing point after point on Charleston. The Golden Eagles were unable to keep up with the pace of George Mason in this set, falling 11-25.

The Golden Eagles were not able to regain composure in the last set of play, falling to the visiting Patriots 18-25, and 1-3 on the day.
