CHARLESTON, W, Va. – Charleston returned home tonight as they played a Friday night game against the Glenville State College Pioneers. UC showed a lot of life tonight as they beat the Pioneers 3-0.

The Golden Eagles were very efficient on the offensive side to open the game recording 13 kills accompanied by a .333 hitting percentage. They went on to win the set by a score of 25-21.

Charleston showed no mercy in the second set as they rallied together to put up 17 kills with a .500 hitting percentage, which was far better than what the Pioneers could put up as they could only manage seven kills with a .063 hitting percentage.

Glenville made the third set interesting as they led the Golden Eagles for most of the set. Charleston was able to come back and even the set up at 24 all. With the crowd behind them, UC was able to eventually put an end to the Pioneers night as they won the set 27-25.

Some familiar names were leading the way for the Golden Eagles. Senior Janeese VerVelde recorded 11 kills with three blocks, senior Sydney Burt put up 11 kills as well as 10 digs, freshman Jaxin Melby contributed 12 kills, sophomore Erin Thomas put together 40 assists and senior Kelsey Matusic recorded 13 digs.

Charleston will look for more of the same tomorrow morning as they matchup with Concord University at 11:00 a.m.
