WEST LIBERTY, W, Va.—The Golden Eagles traveled to West Liberty this evening to take on the Hilltoppers on the road. UC lost the match by a score of 3-1.

How It Happened
The Golden Eagles did not start on the right foot as they were only able to put together four kills and seemed to be on the defense the whole set. Charleston was able to gain most of their points due to some attacking errors committed by the Hilltoppers. West Liberty had 14 attacking errors but were able to manufacture 16 kills in the set as well. West Liberty went onto win the set by a score of 25-19.
UC played better in the second set as they put together 14 kills with a .216 hitting percentage. Charleston's offensive numbers in the set outweighed that of the Hilltoppers, as West Liberty managed to record 12 kills and a .132 hitting percentage. Despite the numbers, Charleston had multiple service and attacking errors that resulted in a lost set by a score of 25-21.
The Golden Eagles were able to come back in the third set as they had 12 kills and capitalized on attacking errors by the Hilltoppers as West Liberty committed eight of them. Charleston was able to pull out the win in the set 25-20.
The fourth set was a close one. Charleston was on the attack putting together 19 kills in the set but committed 10 attacking errors as well. They battled West Liberty well with a very back and forth set. They could not put away the Hilltoppers as West Liberty went on to win the set 28-26.
Notable Performances
Seniors Janeese VerVelde and Sydney Burt were able to contribute 12 kills each in the match, sophomore Erin Thomas put together 33 assists as well as a career-high 15 digs and senior Kelsey Matusic was able to tally a season-high 33 digs putting her career total for digs at 1,966. She is a player to keep an eye on as she is only 34 more digs away from reaching 2,000 for her career.
