UC Takes the Win In a Great Match Against D&E

CHARLESTON, W Va. –  The Golden Eagles took on the Senators from Davis & Elkins College this evening as they went on to take the win 3-1 in a heated match.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first set, the Golden Eagles came out swinging playing with a lot of energy and passion. They had 19 kills with a .395 hitting percentage staying on top of the Senators who had 15 kills and tallied a .238 hitting percentage. UC went on to take the set by a score of 26-24.

The Senators came back in the second set. Charleston was able to record 13 kills on a .154 hitting percentage. They did have seven attacking errors as well that ended up hurting them a lot in the set. D&E also had 13 kills on a .235 hitting percentage along with two blocks. The Golden Eagles could not come back from their mistakes that allowed the Senators to take the set by a score of 25-19.

The story of the second set was attacking errors by D&E. The Senators had 10 kills with a .056 hitting percentage while also allowing eight attacking errors. The Golden Eagles capitalized on the mistakes by D&E as they tallied 13 kills with a .333 hitting percentage as well as three serving aces. The Golden Eagles went on to take the set by a score of 25-20.

The Golden Eagles carried their momentum into the fourth set. They added 17 kills to their day while posting a .289 hitting percentage. The Senators had 14 kills while putting up a .178 hitting percentage. UC went on to take the set by a score of 25-22.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

Sophomore Rachel Phalen put up 19 kills for the Golden Eagles, sophomore Brianna Washburn added 13 kills for the team, sophomore Erin Thomas had 48 assists and senior Kelsey Matusic had 20 digs on the night.

UP NEXT

The Golden Eagles will be back on the court for their final home game of the season as they will take on West Virginia Wesleyan College at 3:00 p.m. on senior day.
