LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- University of Charleston men's cross country heads into Saturday's NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Men's Cross Country Championships as the top-ranked team in the region, looking to repeat as Atlantic Region champions and return to the NCAA DII Men's Cross Country National Championship for the second consecutive season. Saturday's regional championship is hosted by Lock Haven University at the West Branch Cross Country Course at Stern Athletic Complex in Lock Haven, Pa.
Charleston, fresh off their second straight Mountain East Conference title, enters Saturday's race as the 20th ranked team in NCAA Division II but has been ranked as high as 9th this season. The Golden Eagles are led by senior Jack Mastandrea who recently earned MEC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year after his stellar performance all season. UC was dominant at this year's MEC Championships, placing six runners in the top-10 to win the MEC trophy by 25 points.
Mountain East's Cross Country Coach of the Year Nick Bias is confident in his squad and looks to build on last season's 22nd place finish at the DII Nationals in Pittsburgh, Pa.
