Shepherdstown, W. Va. – The University of Charleston Men's Basketball team picked up a 71-60 win over the Rams of Shepherd University in their season opener. The Golden Eagles (1-0, 0-0 MEC) were led offensively by Senior Forward
Devon Robinson who finished the game with 21 points, eight rebounds, and an assist.
After the lead bounced back and forth throughout most of the first half, Charleston found themselves down as much as six with three minutes remaining in the half. Despite the early deficit, Charleston was able to gain momentum as the Golden Eagles finished the opening half on a 13-2 run to take a 35-31 lead into halftime.
Much like the end of the first half, Charleston was able to extend their lead over the Rams with an 13-0 run to begin the second half, extending their lead to 49-31 with 14:50 remaining in the game. Shepherd was able to gain momentum, halting the Golden Eagles with a 9-0 run of their own to bring the score to 54-42 in favor of Charleston.
Despite the comeback effort, the large 26-2 run between the end of the first and beginning of the second half for Charleston was too much to overcome for the Rams who fell to 0-1, 0-0 PSAC.

The Golden Eagles will return to action tomorrow afternoon against the Vulcans of California University (PA) with tip scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The Vulcans, who faced off against Bowie State this afternoon, dropped an 86-84 decision to the Bulldogs. Following Saturday's contest, the Golden Eagles will face Malone University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. for their home opener at the Wehrle Innovation Center.
