Bray Leads Golden Eagles in 3-0 Victory Over Queens

CHARLESTON, W.VA. –The Golden Eagles picked up their fourth win of the season on Saturday evening, defeating the Lions from Queens University of Charlotte 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-23).

How It Happened

The Golden Eagles came out to win in the first set of play, defeating the visiting Lions 25-28, and going up 1-0. Charleston's Adriel Roberts gave UC four kills in the first set, as he helped the Golden Eagles use their pace to outwork the visitors. Charleston's Deigo Villafane helped the momentum with 10 assists, and Brandon Greenway shutdown their offense with two blocks.
 
Queens came back ready to compete in the second set of the day, as they battled back and forth until the 14thpoint when UC used a burst of energy to take a 17-14 lead. The visitors were able to find their way back, making the game even at 26-6, before two kills from freshman standout Lachlan Bray set the Golden Eagles apart, allowing them to win the set 28-26. Bray finished the set with six kills, while Stuart had two black assists.
 
Both sides battled in the third set, as Charleston worked to end the match, and Queens fought to win a set to stay in the match. The Golden Eagles and the Lions went point for point until a block from Stuart gave UC a 25-23 win in the set. Bray had a career high with 15 kills, while Stuart had a career high with seven blocks in one game, and broke a UC ace record with 66 career aces. Freshman Villafane also has a career high with five blocks.
