How It Happened
The first set of play was close between the Golden Eagles and the visiting Red Flashes from Saint Francis University. Charleston started the set off down by three points before sophomore Maarten Bartels answered back with a kill. UC used this kill to bring energy to the court, as they continued to put offensive pressure on the Red Flashes.
The first set continued to go back and forth between the two sides, before Saint Francis capitalized on a UC service error, ending the set 25-23. Charleston's Max Senica and Adriel Roberts each had three kills, while Eugene Stuart and Maarten Bartels each picked up two blocks.
Charleston came out in the second set looking energized, but were unable to keep up the tempo long enough to top the visitors, falling in the set 25-18, and going down 3-0 on the day.
Heading into the third set, the Golden Eagles knew that they needed to win it to stay in the game. Charleston tried to use their skill and power to sneak past the visitors, but were unsuccessful in doing so, falling in the last set 25-22, and 3-0 on the day.
