Golden Eagles Split Opening Day with Lions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MARS HILL N.C. – The Golden Eagles split opening day of the 2019 season with the Mars Hill Lions. Charleston picked up their first win on the season with a 13-9 victory in game one, but fell 1-3 in game two to finish the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE:
Junior Hunter Townsend recorded his second career win.  The Houston, native pitched two innings, saw 10 batters and retired four.  

Sophomore outfielder Hayden Cartt led the Golden Eagles with four RBIs, nailing a grand slam in the second inning. Austin Hathaway went 2-for-4 from the plate with the RBIs.

Neither team sent any runners home in the first inning. The Golden Eagles struck first in the second inning with a homerun by Jack Brunetti. Hayden Cartt's grand slam in the second gave the Golden Eagles the 6-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
 
Mars Hill scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, but the Golden Eagles maintained the bottom of the sixth when Mars Hill scored three runs to tie the game up 9-all.
 
In the top of the seventh, Charleston sent three runners home to take the 13-9 lead. The Lions were unable to score in the bottom of the seventh giving the Golden Eagles the 13-9 victory.
 
GAME TWO:
Troy Hall took the victory for the Mars Hill Lions in game two of the day.

First basemen, Nick Wilson went 1-for-2 on the day, while centerfielder Colby Johnson sent 1-for-3.

Both sides were unable to send runners home in the first inning, but Mars Hill brought in two runs in the bottom of the second, and one final score in the bottom of the fifth.
 
The Golden Eagles put a run on the board in the top of the seventh when a balk sent Kyle Keenan home for the Golden Eagles. Unable to make any magic happen on the plate, Charleston fell 1-3 in game two

UP NEXT
The Golden Eagles are set to host a three-game series against Post University on February 23-24. Game one is set for Saturday the 23 at 3:00 p.m.
