CHARLESTON, W.VA. –After a close match, the Golden Eagles fell to the Nittany Lions from Penn State 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-16), going 0-6 in conference play.

How It Happened
Charleston stayed with the visiting Penn State Nittany Lions throughout the first set of play, as they used their intensity to bring offensive pressure. The score continued to go back and forth, before a service ace from sophomore Maarten Bartels tied the game at 11-11. UC continued to fight hard, but were unable to stop Penn State defensively, falling in the set 25-19. The Golden Eagles totaled eight kills in the first set compared to Penn State's nine, and had four service errors.
The Golden Eagles came out in the second set with a want to win, as they worked together to breakdown Penn State's defense. Both teams stayed within a point or two of each other throughout the whole set, with a kill from freshman standout Lachlan Bray evening the score at 22-22. Despite holding on, a defensive error for UC allowed the visitors to capitalize, taking the set away from UC 26-24. The Penn State Nittany Lions led over Charleston 2-0.
UC headed into the third set of play, knowing that if they lost the set the game was over. The Golden Eagles dug deep to try and win the set; however, Penn State began to pull away from UC after the ninth point. The Nittany Lions continued to push past the Golden Eagles, beating them 25-16, winning the match 3-0.
