CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles (4-7) were swept by the Wingate Bulldogs (14-8) in a three-game series. The Golden Eagles move to 4-7 on the season, and look to open up conference play at the end of the week.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE:
The Golden Eagles jumped ahead to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third. With Brice Arrington on second, Austin Hathaway hit a double down the left field line to give UC the 1-0 edge. Wingate answered in the bottom of the third on a Sac fly to send the runner home.
In the top of the fourth, Jack Brunetti hit a home run to give UC the 2-1 lead, but a big fourth inning for the Bulldogs would bring in four runs taking the 5-2 lead from UC.
Wingate would score five more runs in the bottom of the sixth before UC would score their final two in the top of the ninth on Colby Johnson's single followed by Morello, who reached on a fielder's choice allowing Hayden Cartt to score for UC.
The Bulldogs would take the 10-4 victory in game one. Brandson Harris moved to 0-2 on the season taking the loss.
GAME TWO:
Just like game one, the Golden Eagles took off on a two-run lead in the top of the first on a single from Johnson followed by a sac fly from Brunetti to give UC the lead.
Wingate scored six straight runs before the Golden Eagles tied it up in the top of the fourth innig with a sac fly by Derrick Dudek allowing Ryan Willard to score.
Six of UC's starters recorded a hit in the win with Gianfranco Morello, Brunetti, and Cartt the way, finishing with two hits each.
The bottom of the fourth was crucial for the Bulldogs, scoring four more runs to takethe 10-6 lead over UC. Wingate packed on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Charleston cut the lead to five with a single from Morello that gave Braxton Boddorf the go ahead in the top of the sixth.
Wingate sealed their victory in the bottom of the sixth with pair of runs on a triple from Justin Guy to send Hunter Dula home. Guy then scored on a wild pitch giving the Bulldogs the 14-7 win.
GAME THREE:
This time Wingate was the first to get on the board, opening with a three-run homerun by McNeely in the bottom of the second, Rohleder sent Ricky Clark home for the 4-0 lead still in the bottom of the second.
Wingate would score three additional runs through the bottom of the fifth before the Golden Eagles would score on a homer by Hayden Cartt in the top of the sixth. Ethan Belcher notched his first homerun of the season sending Justin Robles in with him.
Wingate took the win in game three 8-3.

The Golden Eagles will host Salem University on Tuesday March 12. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park.
