Golden Eagles Get 12-6 Road Win over Tigers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles (5-7) offensive performance led them to a 12-6 victory over the Salem University Tigers (10-9) on Tuesday afternoon improving UC to 5-7 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jeffery Wong started on the mound for the Golden Eagles, pitching two innings, but after allowing five runs, Robert Fultineer took the mound in the third inning.
 
Centerfielder Colby Johnson led the Golden Eagles at the plate, finishing with three hits three runs, and three RBIs. Sam McKown tabbed two hits and two runs. 
 
It took two innings to get the offense going, but UC took the early lead scoring five runs in the top of the third.  With Austin Hathaway and Braxton Boddorf on second and third, Colby Johnson nailed a double to left field bringing in the first two runs for UC. Johnson stole third before Jack Brunetti singled up the middle giving Johnson the go ahead for UC's third run.
 
Salem answered with a five-run inning in the bottom of the third.
 
With the bases loaded in the top of the fourth, Brunetti reached on an error by the Salem shortstop allowing Boddorf to cross home plate for UC.
 
Salem took the 6-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a single from Walker Dodero to send Tyler Ault home. Charleston brought the score to 6-5 in the top of the sixth on Gianfranco Morello's singe to first base.
 
Charleston tacked on two runs in the seventh inning to take the 7-6 lead. The Golden Eagles then took an 8-6 led in the top of the eighth with a homerun by Johnson to left field.
 
The Golden Eagles blew the game open in the top of the ninth scoring four runs to make the score 12-6. Johnson and Derrick Dudek each had an RBI before Jack Brunetti hit a two-run homer.
 
Kyle Sears took his first loss of the year, but it was Jack Mcneillis to allowed five runs in the final two innings for Salem.
 
Charleston relievers Robert Fultineer and Jacob Kaiser only allowed one combined run and two hits with Kaiser taking the win making it his first of the season.
 
UP NEXT
The Golden Eagles will travel to Winston Salem State tomorrow for a single nine-inning game. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m.
