Golden Eagles Fall to Lake Erie Storm

PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Golden Eagles fell on Saturday afternoon, after five goals from Lake Erie in the last eight minutes of the game put Charleston down 12-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Charleston started the scoring against the Lake Erie College Storm early, when junior attacker Emma Renda snuck one past LEC, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 edge with 19:23 left to play in the first half. The Storm answered back less than two minutes later, making the game even at 1-1. Using her offensive skill, Renda was able to work past Lake Erie's defense, giving UC another goal, and putting the score at 2-1. A quick transition allowed lake Erie's offense to score again, putting the game back even at 2-2. 
 
The Golden Eagles offense continued to work to go up on the Storm, and found success through senior attacker Aryanna Jones and Peyton Harris, as they scored two back to back goals to put the Golden Eagles up 4-2 with 12:32 left to play until half. LEC successfully added a goal to the score making it 4-3, however a goal from senior Peyton Harris gave UC another goal, and a comfortable 5-3 lead. 
 
The first thirty minutes continued to go back and forth between the two sides, as each team battled to have the lead going into halftime. The Golden Eagles were successful, as senior Brianna Rock tallied a fifth goal, allowing Charleston to lead 5-3 after the first half of play.
 
Charleston started the second half off with momentum, scoring three back-to-back goals from senior Samantha Youngman, and two from Renda, with an assist from freshman Isabelle Pisani, giving the Golden Eagles an 8-4 lead with 22:1 left to play in the game. UC continued to work past the Storm, having an 11-7 lead with 9:20 left to play, with goals from Youngman and Jones. UC worked had to keep their lead, but five goals in the last eight minutes of play allowed LEC to pass Charleston, beating the Golden Eagles 12-11.
