Charleston Drops Road Game to Vulcans

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The California (PA) Vulcans downed the Golden Eagles after a two-run eighth inning to take the 5-2 lead and victory at Wild Things Park on Wednesday night.

LOCATION: WASHINGTON, PA – Wild Things Park

HOW IT HAPPENED
A pair of doubles from the Vulcans in the bottom of the eighth gave them the three-run edge on the Golden Eagles.  Levi Nash came it to relieve Jeffery Wong, but after a pair of runs scored, it was Hunter Townsend who got the ball for UC.

Wong was charged with his second loss of the season after allowing three runs (two earned) in seven innings.

Gianfranco Morello, Brice Arrington, and Jesse Elliot each tallied two hits to lead the Golden Eagles. Freshman Jordan Bailey recorded one hit, but was responsible for knocking in the Golden Eagles only two runs of the day.

It was Bailey's two-RBI single that put the Golden Eagles on the board in the top of the fifth, but the offense would continue to struggle for the remainder of the game.

An error by the UC center fielder in the bottom of the fifth cost a pair of runs that would allow the Vulcans to tie the game up at 2-2. McCaskey singled for Cal in the bottom of the sixth, and a second error would allow the go ahead run to score, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of Cal. Julien singled to right field to score two more runs and put the Tigers up by four.

The two doubled in the bottom of the eighth gave the Vulcans the three-run lead over UC.

Dylan Brosky earned his third win after allowing just zero runs on one hit in 3.0 innings of relief. Brosky replaced Vulcans starter Tyler Bedilllion, who passed on the ball after 5.0 innings.
