Golden Eagles Split with Cavaliers in Day One of Series

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston baseball (27-13, 19-3 MEC) split with the UVA-Wise Cavaliers  (20-19, 14-8 MEC) on Thursday in two games of a four-game series in MEC south action. The two teams will be back in action on Monday at Stallard Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
Jack Brunetti plated three runs in a 2-for-4 performance while scoring a run for UC. The senior knocked in UC's first run in the top of the first for the early lead.
 
Charleston brought home six more runs before the Cavaliers scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the third. The Golden Eagles knocked in three more runs by the top of the sixth to seal the 10-1 win over Wise.
 
Five Golden Eagles combined for 10 RBI. Austin Hathaway and Braxton Boddorff each tallied two in the victory.
 
Austin Henrich nearly pitched the shutout of notched the complete game victory, retiring 20-of-29 batters.
 
GAME 2:
The Golden Eagles started as they did in game one with an RBI single from Brunetti to score Brice Arrington, but that would be the Golden Eagles.
 
It was three home runs that boosted the Cavaliers over the Golden Eagles in the waning innings of game two. Tristan Perccerelli went 2-for-2 for the Cavs with five-RBI on two home runs to lead the Cavaliers. Tyler Blaum homered to left center in the fifth inning for the 2- lead before Perccerelli's grand slam in the sixth.
 
Brandon Harris picked up the loss after 4.2 innings, allowing two runs before handing the ball off to Joran Peck.

NEXT UP
The Golden Eagles will head back to Stallard Field on Monday, April 22. The double header is set for 5:00 p.m.
