WEST CHESTER, PA – The No. 6 seed Golden Eagles busted out an open-close game, knocking in 12 runs against the Gannon Golden Knights in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The Golden Eagles will move on to face the winner of Game one tomorrow that features the West Chester Golden Rams and the Gannon Golden Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Seven Golden Eagles had a multi-hit game, led by two 3-for-5 performances from junior center fielder
Colby Johnson and freshman shortstop
Jordan Bailey. Six other Golden Eagles knocked in runs in the UC victory.
Jesse Elliot posted a big outing for the Golden Eagles, going 2-for-5 with two RBI that included a two-run homer in the top of the ninth.
Austin Henrich earned his seventh win of the season, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing one run, and notching eight strikeouts.
After two scoreless opening frames, the Golden Eagles jumped on the Golden Knights starter scoring in nine runs in four consecutive innings.
Austin Hathaway got the scoring started with a sacrifice to right center that would bring in Jesse Elliot for the 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Gianfranco Morello and Colby Johnson each knocked in a run in the inning to give UC the three-run advantage.
An RBI single from Jordan Bailey to start the fourth put UC up 4-0 halfway through the game. Gannon scored their first run on an single from Trey Zeroski that sent Dominic Mori home.
With runners on second and third, Hayden Cartt reached on a wild pitch allowing Colby Johnson to score for the Golden Eagles. Drew Hefner nailed a two-run single in the fifth to score Hayden Cartt and Morello for the 7-1 lead.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead on a single from Dudek and a solo homer by Johnson that made the score 9-1. After bringing the score to 10-2, Jesse Elliot put the icing on the cake with his two run homer in the top of the ninth.
Cory Hegedus took the loss for the Knights after 4.0 innings of work.
