CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Charleston Athletic Director, Dr. Bren Stevens announced the hiring of Robbie Britt to lead the Golden Eagles baseball program.
"Coach Britt is well respected in the baseball coaching world, and it became clear early in the process that he is an individual that will strive to ensure that our baseball players have an incredible experience during their time with us.' said Stevens. 'Robbie is committed to academic excellence, competitive success, program integrity, and community outreach, which are the pillars of the Athletic Department's Strategic Plan. I am looking forward to having him as a member of our team, and I am confident that our baseball players and staff will embrace him as their new leader."
Britt spent the last year as a High School teacher and baseball coach at Rossview High School in Clarksville, Tenn. after serving as both an assistant, and interim head baseball coach at Middle Tennessee State University from 2015-2018. During his time as a volunteer assistant he worked with the outfielders and offense, along with field maintenance. Britt was hired as Director of Baseball Operations back in 2015 and earned the coaching position soon after. In his role, he assisted with coordinating on-campus recruiting, academic achievement, camps, alumni correspondence, player development programs, team travel, equipment management and scouting reports.
Former Charleston baseball coach, Andrew Wright was excited to hear that Britt had been selected to lead the reigning Mountain East Conference champions. "Robbie Britt is an outstanding hire to lead the UC Baseball program. He is intelligent, articulate, and cares deeply for those around him.' Said Wright. 'He will be an exceptional fit with the already impressive list of coaches in the UC Athletic Department and will flourish under the leadership of Dr. Stevens and her administrative team. I am excited for our players to be led by someone with such high-level care. The UC community is going to love Robbie, his wife Courtney, and their daughter, Ellie!"
Before his time at Middle Tennessee, Britt played baseball at Maryville College for three years. After finishing his eligibility as a player his junior year, he was hired as the program's assistant coach and Director of Baseball Operations in 2014-15 while he finished his bachelor's degree. While working as the Scots' assistant, Britt coached the infielders and catchers. Under his leadership Maryville had six all-conference performers and an ABCA First Team All-American. He also helped develop the school's first MLB draftee in shortstop Nick Dean (32nd round, L.A. Dodgers).
Britt started an 18U summer travel baseball team, East Tennessee Select Baseball. He was the owner, director, and head coach of the team from 2011-15. During his time coaching, he developed 26 student-athletes into college baseball players, lead the team to a .777 winning percentage over four years, organized and directed multiple camps and tournaments every summer.
A native of Maryville, Tenn. Britt graduated from Maryville College in 2015 with a B.A. in Political Science and History. Robbie is married to his wife Courtney (Elrod), they have a daughter named Ellie Taylor Britt.
