CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The new home for the UC Golden Eagle baseball, lacrosse and men's and women's soccer teams will open on Saturday, September 14 as University of Charleston celebrates the Grand Opening of the Welch Athletic Complex.
The Grand Opening Ceremony will include free youth sport clinics guided by our soccer, lacrosse and baseball staffs and players prior to the opening ceremony and ribbon cutting, officially opening the Welch Athletic Complex that will house Elliot Field (soccer & lacrosse) and SEGRA Field (baseball).  Immediately following the ceremony, the Charleston men's development soccer team will square off with University of Pikeville.
All events for the Grand Opening are free and open to the public.
The Welch Athletic Complex enlarged and renovated the former baseball field (Triana Field), and now is the home field for the four UC teams. The complex includes artificial turf, concessions, bleachers, locker rooms and a scoreboard. The new facilities will provide competition and practice fields for the 170 athletes in the four sports.Â
The Welch Athletic Complex honors the achievements and legacy of President Edwin H. Welch during his 29 years as president of the university.
Timeline of Activities:
5:30 - 6:30 p.m. - Free youth sports clinics (soccer, lacrosse, baseball)
6:45 - 7:15 p.m. - Opening Ceremony & Ribbon Cutting
7:15 - 8:30 p.m. - Celebration Picnic
7:30 p.m. - Kickoff of UC Men's Soccer vs. Pikeville
