SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Golden Eagles are set to open their regular season on the road in the 2019 Capital Classic tournament hosted by the University of Illinois Springfield.
To start the tournament, Charleston will take on the hosting Prairie Stars who finished with a record of 25-8 overall last year and were picked to finish third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 2019. Game time is set for Sep. 6 at 11:30 a.m.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action later that day at 5:00 p.m. against the University of Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles finished with a record of 10-19 overall a season ago and were picked to finish 12th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference for the 2019 season.
UC will cap off the tournament with a game against the Warriors of Winona State University on Sep. 7 at 9:00 a.m. The Warriors finished the 2018 season with a record of 13-15 overall and were picked to finish seventh in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this year.
The Golden Eagles have been selected to finish third in the Mountain East Conference for the 2019 season. Charleston is coming off of a 2018 campaign that resulted in an 18-17 record along with a trip to the MEC tournament championship where the Golden Eagles fell to Wheeling Jesuit University three sets to none.
