CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The preseason polls for the 2020 season have been released by the NCBWA Atlantic Region, the University of Charleston has been picked to finish fourth in the region this season.
UC is coming off of one of their best seasons as a program as they finished 2019 with a 41-19 overall record and fell one game short of the DII College World Series losing to Mercyhurst who has been picked to finish at the top of the region.
With many returning players and some promising new additions to the team, Charleston is confident of their abilities this season and is looking forward to getting their season started on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 1:00 p.m. as they will open up at home against Alderson Broaddus University.
The Golden Eagles not only have been tabbed to finish fourth in the region but have two players earning All-Region honors as well. Senior OF
Colby Johnson has been selected to the first-team Preseason All-Atlantic Region team while pitcher
Austin Henrich was selected to the second team.
Johnson batted .338 a season ago, along with a .958 OPS, 10 HR, 10 2B, 57 RBIs, and had 13 stolen bases. His performance earned him a spot on the second-team All-Atlantic Region Team in 2019.
Henrich posted a 3.02 ERA in 2019 with a 6-1 record in eight starts throwing five complete games. He was also able to post a 1.29 WHIP allowing only 15 walks while striking out 43 batters in 50.2 IP.
