AUSTIN, TEXAS – The CoSIDA Academic All-American teams were released this morning as senior outfielder Colby Johnson finds himself on the third team.
Johnson played four years at the University of Charleston. In his four years, he posted a total batting average of .323, collecting 185 total hits, with 23 doubles, 11 triples, 21 home runs, 126 RBI's and 68 stolen bases.
In his sophomore season, Johnson hit .351 at the plate with 67 hits, nine doubles, four triples, 10 home runs, 32 stolen bases and 40 RBI's earning him First Team All-MEC honors.
His junior season, Johnson batted .342 with 69 hits, 10 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, 13 stolen bases, and 57 RBI's. He earned himself a Second Team All-Atlantic region spot as well as another First Team All-MEC honor. He was also tabbed to be pre-season All-Atlantic region as well to start the 2020 season.
Majoring in biology, Johnson was able to finish off the last two semesters of his senior year with a 4.0 GPA in the Fall of 2019 and a 3.9 GPA in the Spring.
The Spring Academic All-American teams were selected this season with an emphasis on being an outstanding student, and for the career achievements that the athletes accomplished over their years at their given institution. Johnson's career was one the best UC has ever seen and was able to back it up with the grades as well.
