How It Happened:
UC continued their impressive start to the season, coming out of the blocks fast to clinch the doubles point in a high tempo start to the fixture. Jowan Rawson and Lennert Stevens are developing into a formidable partnership; with the number three pair storming to a quick 6-2 victory. The second pair of Steinhauser and Llorente fell 6-3, leaving the doubles point up for grabs on the top court. UC turned to Giesberts and Dagostine for a response, and once again the top pair answered, clinching the doubles point for the Eagles with a 6-4 victory.
Taking momentum into the singles matchups, Patel quickly added to the UC tally with a swift 6-2 6-4 win at the number 5 position. Down 2-0, Lenoir Rhyne answered back with wins at number one and three, tying the match at 2-2. Dani Llorente was ready and waiting to respond for the Golden Eagles, completely dismantling his opposition with 6-1 6-0 at the number two spot. Up 3-2, needing just one more for the victory, UC turned to Alex Martinez of Spain for the clinch. Martinez ruthlessly disposed of his opposite number in a clinical 6-0 6-0 victory at the number six spot. Dagostine was last match on for the eagles, falling in a tight two sets at the number 4 position.
Up next for the Eagles is a trip to the ITA Nationals next week for the trio of Giesberts, Dagostine and Llorente, before a season ending tournament at Carson Newman in two week's time.
