How it Happened
The Golden Eagles had won their last two games coming into the matchup against the Cardinals and looked to continue that on the road.
Charleston started the game with an ace from Maria Hernandez but would end up falling in the first set 25-19.
In the second set the Golden Eagles put up a much better fight. The set was much more back and forth with the Charleston making a solid comeback in the middle of the set. After a kill by Ally Fisher to make it 27-26 with just one point needed to take a set, Wheeling would take control and eventually finish 31-29.
The third set would go to extra points as well. Once again Charleston had a chance to finish after taking a 26-25 lead. Three straight points from Wheeling would close the scoring and give the Cardinals a 28-26 win.
The match was promising for the Charleston as they competed well against a very good team. Wheeling has long been a powerhouse in the Mountain East and the Atlantic Region. Playing well against them was important as it showed them that the ladies could compete against the best in the conference.
